Efficient Context-Free Grammar Constraints

چکیده
With the introduction of constraints based on finite automata a new line of research has opened where constraints are based on formal languages. Recently, constraints based on grammars higher up in the Chomsky hierarchy were introduced. We devise a timeand space-efficient incremental arc-consistency algorithm for context-free grammars. Particularly, we show how to filter a sequence of monotonically tightening problems in cubic time and quadratic space. Experiments on a scheduling problem show orders of magnitude improvements in time and space consumption.

Grammar Constraints: Combining Expressiveness with Efficiency
Constraints based on formal languages represent variables as a string to be derived from a given grammar. Such representations hold promise for solving combinatorial problems in scheduling and rostering. In this thesis, we devise a time-and space-efficient incremental arcconsistency algorithm for constraints based on context-free grammars. Our experiments on a shift-scheduling problem show mass...
متن کاملA Constraint-Satisfaction Parser for Context-Free Grammars
Traditional language processing tools constrain language designers to specific kinds of grammars. In contrast, model-based language specification decouples language design from language processing. As a consequence, model-based language specification tools need general parsers able to parse unrestricted context-free grammars. As languages specified following this approach may be ambiguous, pars...
متن کاملSecond Position Clitics and Monadic Second-Order Transduction
The simultaneously phonological and syntactic grammar of second position clitics is an instance of the broader problem of applying constraints across multiple levels of linguistic analysis. Syntax frameworks extended with simple tree transductions can make efficient use of these necessary additional forms of structure. An analysis of Sahidic Coptic second position clitics in a context-free gram...
متن کاملProbabilistic Context-Free Grammar Induction Based on Structural Zeros
We present a method for induction of concise and accurate probabilistic contextfree grammars for efficient use in early stages of a multi-stage parsing technique. The method is based on the use of statistical tests to determine if a non-terminal combination is unobserved due to sparse data or hard syntactic constraints. Experimental results show that, using this method, high accuracies can be a...
متن کاملAn Optimized Parsing Algorithm Well Suited to RNA Folding
The application of stochastic context-free grammars to the determination of RNA foldings allows a simple description of the sub-class of sought secondary structures, but it needs efficient parsing algorithms. The more classic thermodynamic model of folding, popularized by Zuker under the framework of dynamic programming algorithms, allows an easy computation of foldings but its use is delicate ...
